Mechanical Engineer

“Set the mechanics in motion to create the magic of new technology!”

One of the most diverse and versatile engineering fields, mechanical engineering is the study of objects and systems in motion. As such, the field of mechanical engineering touches virtually every aspect of modern life, including the human body, a highly complex machine. Mechanical engineers play key roles in a wide range of industries including automotive, aerospace, biotechnology, computers, electronics, microelectromechanical systems, energy conversion, robotics and automation, and manufacturing. Regardless of the particular path they envision for themselves, a mechanical engineering education empowers students with creative thinking skills to design an exciting product or system; analytical tools to achieve their design goals; the ability to overcome all constraints; and the teamwork needed to design, market, and produce a system.

  1. Degrees, Programs & Top Indian Colleges

  2. Bachelor's Degree Course (4 years): B. Tech.

Candidates should have passed 10+2 from school with PCM (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) as major subjects. A minimum of 55% marks in 10+2 or equivalent is compulsory (relaxation rules apply for different categories and varies from college to college) for taking admission in undergraduate and diploma courses of mechanical engineering. Students need to give various competitive examinations such as IIT-JEE (Mains + Advanced), BITSAT, VITEEE, etc.

  3. Master's Degree Course (2 years): M.Tech.

Usually, a bachelor's degree is enough for a starting career in the field of mechanical engineering. But a few individuals feel the need of taking further specialisation and thus pursue a masters degree. In addition, individuals who wish to go for academic research or lecturarship, also choose M.Tech. as their option after bachelor's. For admission in M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering course, candidates must have a passing certificate of graduation level with a minimum aggregate of 50% in the required field. For an M.Tech degree, a student have to qualify GATE exam to enter masters at various top institutions.

  4. Top Indian Colleges for B.Tech.:

    1. Leading IITs (IIT Delhi, IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur, IIT Bombay, IIT Kharagpur) 2. National Institute of Technology (NIT), Trichy 3. Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), Vellore 4. Birla Institute of Technology (BITS), Pilani 5. Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), Manipal

  1. Involve yourself in this classical art of engineering and build machines!

One of the oldest and broadest fields of engineering, Mechanical engineering deals with the design, construction, and use of machines. The programme endows students with the basic understanding and knowledge of how heavy tools and machinery work. A student pursuing a mechanical engineering programme will acquire knowledge about designing of automobiles, electric motors, aircraft and other heavy vehicles. Mechanical engineers design everything from new batteries, athletic equipment to medical devices and from personal computers, air conditioners, automobile engines to electric power plants. These engineers also design machines that produce these innovations. The scope of mechanical engineering in India and abroad is huge for every aspect of our lives are touched by mechanical engineering in one way of the other. Spanning multiple industries, the career opportunities for students pursuing the programme is huge.
