Admission criteria to a master's degree course is to qualify 10+12 exam or its equivalent from a recognized board. The minimum age limit is 18 years. There is no specific entrance exam but it may differ from one university to the other. Students are given a basic knowledge of techniques employed in gemological laboratories, fashioning of gemstones, individual stones, and their stimulants, and much more.
For admission to a master’s degree, the candidate must have passed graduation from a recognized university. Students learn theme-based designing, the manufacturing process of gemstones, lab work, or practical experience to identify a good gem and accordingly grade it.

A Diamond Grader's job is to grade gems, essentially, diamonds according to their quality. They use advanced equipment to see the quality, color, lustre, etc of a particular diamond. The job also includes grading other gems based on these criteria.
